Gallery LVS returns to PAD for the third time, introducing a selection of new artists. Since its establishment in 2008, the gallery has been dedicated to exploring modern and contemporary art across a wide range of disciplines—including fine art, craft, installation, and media. Over the past 13 years, Gallery LVS has participated in major international art fairs such as PAD, COLLECT, SOFA, Art Geneva, and Kogei Kanazawa, presenting works by artists from around the world.
Chang Yeon Soon was the first Korean finalist of the LOEWE Craft Prize in 2018. Her awarded work, the “Matrix” series, will be presented at PAD. Matrix is a cube-shaped object composed of natural fiber abaca, which she hand-dyes using indigo and then stitches into layered forms. This six-sided object symbolizes the human body and mind, and carries a deep symbolism tied to one of humanity's earliest labors: clothing-making. Each stitched plane reveals a moment where identity is explored by transcending space and stretching time.
This year, a new furniture series by Bae Se Hwa is also unveiled. Created by steaming and bending wood over a long period, the works reveal smooth and flexible forms. Inspired by Korean landscapes and mountains, Bae Se Hwa’s furniture features flowing curves and hollow interiors, capturing the serene, restrained beauty and leisurely philosophy of Korean aesthetics.
Another furniture artist, Na Jeomsoo, seeks to observe wood more as it is. With minimal formal expression, he brings forth the inherent presence of the material. His works, whether it be a wooden sculpture that retains its grain or bronze pieces in the shape of natural stones, reject artificiality and draw closer to nature. A bookshelf that holds only one or two books is not intended as a practical piece of furniture, but rather as a philosophical object that blends with nature, holds time, and provokes reflection.
Also on view are the refined white ceramics of Kim Deok Ho, distinguished by flowing motifs evocative of traditional Korean landscape painting; Kim Dong Jun's Moon Jar, baked in a wood-fired kiln, shows texture and silhouette like the moon in the night sky; Huh Sangwook’s innovative reinterpretations of Buncheong ware, bridging historical form with contemporary sensibility; and the works of Han Jeongyong, who upholds the timeless legacy of pure, classical Joseon white porcelain. Collectively, these artists exemplify the depth, sophistication, and evolving beauty of contemporary Korean ceramic art.
