STATEMENT

KR / EN

나는 주로 입체물의 기본 구성요소인 점과 선, 면 등을 연장시키거나 제거함으로써 새로운 형태로 변형하는 작업에 집중한다. 이러한 과정은 새로운 공간을 만들거나 구성요소인 점, 선, 면, 그 외 직경이나 둘레 등을 장식요소로 전환하기도 한다. 따라서 작품의 기본형을 이루는 기하형의 입체물들은 어떤 형태로든 변화 가능한 정지된 동태(動態)와도 같다. 형태뿐 아니라 다양한 조형적 방식을 적용하여 기물을 시각적으로 혹은 구조적으로 변형하는 작업 역시 매우 흥미롭다. 이는 재료, 제작기법 등을 모두 포함하는데 이는 공예작업이 개념, 형태, 재료, 기술 모두가 작품구현에 중요한 역할을 한다는 점에서 기인한다. 의식과 손, 물질과 기법이 상호관계를 맺음으로써 진행되는 ‘만듦’이, 작품을 보고 사용하는 사람과 또 다른 긴밀한 관계를 형성하길 바란다.

I usually concentrate on the transformation of an object into new forms by extending or removing the basic components of three dimensional objects such as dots, lines, surfaces, etc. Such procedures create a whole new space or change the space’s components: dots, lines, surface, diameter or circumference into decorative items. Therefore the three dimensional, geometric objects that make up the basic form of the artwork are at static, but dynamic state with full potential to transform into any other forms. Visual or structural transformation by applying various sculptural methods with the material and form is fascinating to me. It is due to the fact that concept, form, material and technique all have great importance in the realization of craft artwork.
