STATEMENT
어떤 대상을 본다고 할 때 우리가 진정으로 보는 것은 무엇일까?
내 작업의 오랜 관심사는 보이는 것과 보이지 않는 것에 대한 질문 이었다.
나는 보이는 것 너머에 더 많은 이야기가 존재한다고 믿고
그것을 작업으로 표현하고자 선택한 재료가 투명한 레진이었다.
레진의 투명성이 우리의 시선을 물체의 표면 뿐 만 아니라
그 내면의 깊숙한 곳 까지 이끌어 준다.
나는 시각의 초월성을 꿈꾼다.
투명성의 물질을 통해 비물질적이고 비형태적인 것을 만들어
궁극의 신비로운 미지의 세계와의 만남을 꿈꾼다.
평면인 내 작품에는 공간이 존재한다.
불가능하지만 시각적으로 분명 공간을 느낄 수 있다.
레이어 와 레이어의 사이,~그 사이의 모호한 경계 속에 존재하는 ‘사이공간’이다.
투명할 뿐인 물질로 가득 채워져 있는 덩어리지만
그 투명성으로 인해 공간으로 느끼게 되는 것이다.
나는 그 투명하게만 보이는 ‘사이의 공간’들이 사유로 채워지길 원한다.
근년 나의 실험은 겉으로 드러난 어떤 것을 너머,
공간 그 자체를 보여주고자 노력한다.
형태를 완전히 버리고 오직 색과 선의 중첩만으로
무한하고 신비로운 미지의 세계를 향해 다가가고자 한다.
나의 ‘사이공간’은 시적, 그리고 창조적 공간이다.
When we gaze at an object, what are we actually peering into?
My works have long asked the question of the seen and the unseen.
Believing that greater tales were to be told beyond the seen I wished to embody it in my work, and selected clear resin as my material. The transparent nature of resin was ideal in drawing the onlooker’s gaze to the surface of the object and then deeper to its core.
I dream of visual transcendence. Through the transparent material, I create immaterial and amorphic objects, dreaming a rendezvous of with the ultimately arcane and unknown world.
My work is done on a plane, but it embodies space. It sounds impossible, yet the eyes ascertain the existence of space. From layer to layer, In Between Space exist in the ambiguous boundaries between layers. Although it is merely a lump filled with transparent material, its transparence gives it volume and space. It is my wish that those transparent In Between Space become saturated with contemplation.
My experiments of recent years have focused on overcoming the superficial, to display the space in its essence.
I want to remove all from and look to only the layers of colors and lines to approach the unknown world of the infinite and mysterious.
My In Between Space is a space of Aonian and Creative nature.
